You can open the backup data by clicking the Restore Personal Files option in the Utilities Control Panel applet. A new window will open where you can select the copied files to restore. Select a file from there and click the "Recover" button.

Alternatively you can view the File History folder on the backup drive in Explorer. This folder contains file copies. You can choose to open the files from there or move them back to the C: drive.

How to Backup Folders and Files with Robocopy

Robocopy is a handy command line utility for copying folders and files. You can quickly back up entire folders or individual files by entering a Robocopy command at the command prompt. Here's how to backup a single folder to an external USB drive using the Robocopy tool in Windows 11.

1. Launch Windows 11's File and Application Search tool which is included in the Start menu and type Command Prompt in the utility's text box.
2. Open a command prompt by selecting the matching search result.
3. Enter the Robocopy command with the actual folder directory and drive letter: robocopy “C:Folder1Folder2” “X:Folder1Folder2”
4. Press Return to back up the folder with Robocopy.
